I am not Chinese

but for those who are Chinese, I want to wish you all a Happy Chinese New Year or Gong Hey Fat Choy!!  For the longest time in a while now, I still get mistaken as someone who is of Chinese descent.  Just for the record, not all Asians are Chinese ; ) I know it’s quite hard to differentiate between Chinese people, Vietnamese, Japanese, Koreans and Filipinos just to name a few but we really are quite different from one another.

So what am I?  I’m a proud Filipino.   Philippines is a country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean and the capital city is Manila.  There are at least 175 individual languages in the Philippines but Tagalog and English are the official languages.   The Philippines has a tropical maritime climate and is usually hot and humid.  Filipinos do not eat with chopsticks  : )  We use regular cutlery but since rice is the primary staple food along with stews and main dishes with broth, the main pairing of utensils seen at the Filipino dining table is that of a spoon and fork.

There you go, a very brief 411 on my ethnic background : )  And if you recognize these names…(and this is a very short list!!)

1. APL – Alan Pineda of the Black Eyed Peas

2. Cris Judd

3. Enrique Iglesias

4. Rob Schneider

5. Manny Pacquiao

6. Lea Salonga

they too are proud Filipinos/Filipina! (their mother or father or both are of Filipino descent!)

and because a blog post is better with a photo, here’s a pic of hubby and I at a tennis match.  Notice his shirt?  It’s the Philippine Islands!  R-E-P-R-E-S-E-N-T!

And here’s a music video I discovered on youtube representing Filipinos all over the world!  The video is directed and edited by Filipinos wanting to show the world who we are, what we are as a nation and what we can achieve together! A true Filipino Pride : )  Enjoy!!
